Arthur Peiyao Wang

Composer, Arranger, Music Producer

rthur Wang is a composer, arranger, and music producer from China, currently based in Michigan, United States. Wang is a composer whose work spans film scores, jazz, electronic, and contemporary classical music. Influenced early on by classic American film theme songs of the 1960s–70s, he has since drawn inspiration from the soundscapes of traditional China, worldwide ethnic groove, and the philosophies of Krishnamurti, Laozi, and the Buddha. His cross-cultural experiences have shaped a distinctive musical voice that bridges history, philosophy, and contemporary expression. Trained at the Communication University of China, Eastman School of Music, and Michigan State University, he studied with some of America’s great composers in their genre, such as Bill Dobbins, Zhou Tian, Richard Danielpour, and Mark Watters. His music has been performed by ensembles and performers in the United States, such as the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, Michigan State University Symphony Orchestra, MSU Wind Symphony, Eastman Empire Film and Media Ensemble, Eastman Jazz Ensemble, Eastman Jazz Lab Band, American Modern Ensemble, Jasper String Quartet, and Reverón Trio, etc. He’s a first-prize winner of the 2019 Shanghai International Electronic Music Composition Competition. Other awards include the Denny Award, the Global Music Award Bronze Medal, the Musicacoustica-Beijing Electronic Music Composition Competition Awards, the ASMAC David Blumberg Prize, and finalist in the 2022 and 2025 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award, 2024 European Recording Orchestra Call for Scores 2024 Top 10, etc.
